Waltham 17 jewel P S Bartlett, unusual case.

A nice useable everyday pocket watch made by Waltham Watch Co. in 1919. This one with a rather unusual case that has hinges below the pendant.

This is a 16 size model 1908 movement with 17 jewels and is a P S Bartlett grade. It has a Swiss lever escapement with double roller and gold timing screws with a "Church 1892" micro-regulator. The movement is beautifully finished with a lovely damascened patterning, black enameled inlaid script and gold jewel settings.

The watch is stem wind and stem set, both functions working smoothly. It is running strong and keeps very good time to better than +1 minute a day which is pretty good for an antique watch.

Housed in a  gold filled case that itself is in excellent condition, and is unusual in that the rear cover hinge is immediately below the pendant rather than  is more commonly found at the bottom of the case. The bezel is snap on and there is also an internal hinged cover, again hinged below the pendant. There are no dents or dings, and all of the gold is intact, the pendant crown and bow all in good order, both of the hinges are good, all in all it's a very nice but unusual case. 

Single sunk white enamel dial is in excellent condition, I can find no flaws.

A good set of blued steel whip hands hands under a good mineral glass crystal.

Overall a very useable antique pocket watch that is in very nice overall condition.
