Waltham 17 jewel Canadian Pacific model 1892

Very rare railroad grade pocket watch made by Waltham Watch Co. in 1907 specifically for the Canadian Pacific Railroad.
The model 1892 is an 18 size movement and is the final development of this size watch by Waltham. This watch is one of 2600 specifically prepared for the Can. Pac. railway and carries the distinctive logo with the beaver mounted above a shield containing the name. This watch has 17 jewels a Swiss lever escapement with double roller and gold timing screws along with the "Ohlson" micro-regulator. Adjusted to 5 positions to ensure timekeeping consistency it is to full railroad spec.
The watch is crown wind and lever set (withdraw the small lever by the 2 and rotate the crown to set the time), both functions working smoothly. The watch is running strong and is keeping time to about +1 minute per day.
This is a nickel "Swing Out" case where the movement is contained within a solid ring which is attached by a hinge to the main body of the case. These cases are particularly protective of the movement as the hinged ring provides some shock absorption in the event of a heavy knock, whilst the material used is of a thicker gauge than most other cases. Having just the one removable cover also helps prevent the ingress of dust and dirt.
The case is in nice condition with just a couple of noticeable dings to the rear. The front cover removes and replaces easily and the hinge is in excellent condition so the movement swings in and out easily. (To expose the movement: remove front cover, turn the hands away from the 6 to avoid damage, click out the crown, with the thumbnail in the recess at the 6 lever the movement up and out).
Double sunk Canadian spec. 24 hour dial in white enamel is in excellent condition, as are the heavy spade hands and the thick mineral glass crystal. Please study the photos to form your own opinion.
