Superb Hamilton 992B railroad watch. Serviced

Another beautiful railroad watch made by Hamilton watch Co. in 1952, this one in a Canadian made case and with Canadian RR spec 24Hr. dial with dual time zone hands.
The distances East to West in Canada and the USA were so vast that the trains were constantly travelling from one time zone to the next and it was important for the workers to know the local time in either direction, thus the extra hour hand to display the current time in the next time zone.
 
The Hamilton 992B is arguably the finest railroad watch ever made, being in continuous production from 1940 - 1969 and was the final model still in production when the factory closed. A very sophisticated specification that has 21 jewels, a fully capped Swiss lever escapement with double roller, Sapphire pallets and gold timing screws. The watch features the ground breaking "Elinvar" hairspring and accompanying solid mono metal balance wheel. The "Elinvar" hairspring overcame the timing difficulties caused by temperature variations that was a problem for the earlier carbon steel hairsprings.
 
This particular movement has just been fully cleaned and serviced, and a new mainspring has been fitted. It is running well and keeping excellent time. The watch is stem wind and lever set (withdraw the small lever by the 1 and rotate the crown to set the time) both functions working well.
 
Housed in a Canadian made gold filled case with screw on / off covers. The case is in good condition with no obvious dents, dings or abrasion and both covers operate as they should. There is an elaborate engraving to the rear cover and quite a crude engraving inside the rear cover, please see the photos.
Double sunk melamine dial in excellent condition, Canadian 24 Hr. spec. A very good set of dual time zone hands under a good acrylic crystal.
