Superb Hamilton 992B railroad. Just serviced.

A beautiful railroad watch made by Hamilton watch Co in 1959, housed in a lovely stainless steel case.
 
Nickel plate movement with 21 jewels, the 992B was probably the pinnacle of pocket watch development when it was introduced in 1941. It features a fully capped Swiss lever escapement with double roller, sapphire pallets, gold timing screws, and a sprung micro-regulator. The watch also has the innovative "Elinvar" temperature resistant hairspring and associated mono-metal solid balance wheel. A problem with earlier carbon steel hairsprings was that rising or falling ambient temperatures affected the elasticity of the spring which caused the watch to run faster or slower. This was compensated for by using a bi-metallic split balance wheel that contracted or expanded at a known rate which countered the effects on the spring caused by varying temperatures. The "Elinvar" spring is a white metal alloy that is unaffected by differences in temperature, a major advance as this allowed for more accurate and reliable timekeeping.
This watch has just been fully serviced and has a new mainspring. It runs strong and reliably in all positions and is keeping excellent time to + a couple of seconds per day. It is stem wind and lever set (withdraw the small lever by the 1 and rotate the crown to set the time). Both functions work smoothly.
 
Lovely unmarked 3 piece stainless steel case. Both covers remove and replace easily.
 
White melamine dial in new condition, I can find no flaws. Excellent set of blued steel heavy spade style hands.
 
Overall a very collectible railroader in fabulous condition, could be a daily user.
