Super 18 size 21 jewel Hamilton 940 Railroad watch.

Super 18 size 21 jewel Hamilton 940 Railroad watch.

Very nice Hamilton 940 Railroad watch made in 1906.

The full plate model 1 Hamilton 940 was the first true railroad grade watch made by Hamilton and was to a really high specification. It has 21 jewels and features a Swiss lever escapement with double roller, gold timing screws and a "Goldthwaite" micro-regulator. Adjusted for timing in 5 positions and fitted with a fully jewelled motor barrel the watch is finished with a lovely damaskened pattern, inlaid gilt script and screw set  jewel settings.

The watch is running strong and keeping good time within a couple of minutes per day. It is stem wind and lever set, both functions work smoothly.

The 3 piece 20 year gold filled case is in nice order but exhibits moderate age related wear. The gold appears intact with no evident wear through although the embossed design to the rear cover shows considerable smoothing. There are no dents, dings or abrasion marks, and the pendant crown, and bow are all in good order.

The original double sunk white enamel dial is in excellent condition, I can find no flaws. Equally the blued steel hands are in good shape, and also the acrylic crystal.

Overall a very nice collectible piece that is in fine condition and working as it should.
