Splendid 18s Ball Hamilton 999G Railroad Watch.
Absolutely splendid example of the Ball Hamilton model 999G railroad watch made in 1906.
The Ball Watch Co. was founded by Mr. Webb C. Ball to produce and sell high quality Railroad spec watches to the American Railroad companies and their employees. The Ball Watch Co. did not manufacture these watches but contracted the major American watchmaking companies to produce watches to Ball specification and design. These were then assembled into complete watches in house and sold under the Ball brand. Companies producing watches for Ball included Hamilton, Waltham, Elgin, Illinois, and Hampden amongst others. From the 1950s some Swiss companies were also producing movements for Ball.
This particular watch was manufactured by Hamilton Watch Co. in 1906. It's an 18 size full plate Nickel movement with 19 jewels, Swiss lever escapement with double roller, Sapphire pallets, gold timing screws, and a micro-regulator. The movement also features a fuly jewelled motor barrel and gold jewel settings. The movement is finished with a lovely damaskened pattern and gilt inlaid script.
The watch runs strong in all positions and is keeping time better than +10 secs. per day.
It is stem wind and lever set, both functions working smoothly.
Housed in a beautiful 20 year gold filled 3 piece case that exhibits very little wear. The covers screw on and off smoothly, both close down square and tight. The gold appears intact throughout and there are no dents, dings or major abrasion. A splendid case!
Original single sunk white enamel dial in excellent condition with just one small chip at the 9 which is completely hidden with the bezel in place.
A very nice set of blued steel hands under a very good mineral glass crystal.
Overall a fairly rare watch in super condition that could be used daily, excellent!
