Silver cased Waltham 17j Riverside pocket watch
An antique sterling silver pocket watch mad by Waltham Watch Co. in1898.
16 size brass plate model 1888 movement with 17 jewels "Riverside" grade. With a Swiss lever escapement with gold timing screws and a patent micro-regulator. The movement has screw set gold jewel settings which makes this quite a high quality piece from that era.
The watch is stem wind and stem set (Tug on the crown and it clicks into time set position, rotate the crown to set the time and don't forget to push the crown back down to wind position once the time is set). Both functions work smoothly but it takes quite a tug to go to time set position (This is common with the model 1888). The watch is running strong and keeps time within 1 minute per day.
Housed in a fully hallmarked sterling silver open face case with a snap on bezel and hinged rear cover with hinged inner dust cover. The hinges are good and both hinged covers operate as expected, and both close tight. There is a presentation engraving on the inner dust cover dated 1901 which is an interesting piece of history. The case is in fairly worn condition as the original engine turning to the rear cover has just about worn smooth, there are also several small dings evident. Please study the photos to gauge the condition.
Original white enamel dial with private label signature is in fine condition. I can find no chips, cracks or hairlines and all of the printing is crisp and sharp. A good set of gilt spade style hands indicate the time under a good mineral glass crystal.
Overall a nice antique pocket watch in good honest used condition that is working well.
