Silver cased Elgin 17jewel High grade 244 pocket watch. Chester H/Marks

Silver cased Elgin 17jewel High grade 244 pocket watch. Chester H/Marks

A lovely antique pocket watch made by Elgin Watch Co. in 1901 housed in a solid silver case with Chester Hallmarks.

The 3 finger bridge model 7, grade 244 movement is a very high quality affair with 17 jewels, a Swiss lever escapement, and a gold centre wheel. The movement finished with a lovely damaskened pattern and gold jewel settings. The watch has been recently serviced and is running sweetly keeping good time but losing about 1 minute per day.
It is stem wind and stem set with both functions working smoothly.

The solid silver case is fully hallmarked within the 2 rear covers both of which are hinged to the main body of the case. The hinges are both good and both covers open and close as they should. The front is a snap on bezel which is quite secure. The case is in very good order generally but the original engine turned finish to the rear has worn smooth over the years. The pendant, crown and bow are all in good shape. Nice case with fairly rare Chester hallmarks.

Single sunk white enamel dial with unusual blue printing is in nice condition showing just a couple of very faint hairlines. Very nice blued steel fine spade style hands and a good acrylic crystal.

Overall a very nice watch in very useable condition.
