Rare Ball Elgin 333, 21 jewel 18 size Railroad watch.
Very rare Ball Elgin 333 railroader made in 1906, only 1500 of these were ever made, this one survives and is running strong and keeping excellent time.
The Ball watch Co. was set up to provide railroad grade watches to the railroad companies and their employees. The movements were manufactured by the established watch making companies to Ball design and specification and were then assembled by ball into finished watches and sold under the Ball brand name. Movements were made by Hamilton, Waltham, Elgin, Illinois and others but were all sold as "Ball" watches.
This grade 333 movement made by Elgin has 21 jewels, a fully capped Swiss lever escapement, Sapphire pallets, double roller, gold timing screws and a micro-regulator. Finished with a lovely damaskened pattern, gold jewel settings and gilt script it's a testament to the watch makers skills of that time. It is running strong in all positions and keeping excellent time.
The watch is stem wind and lever set.
Nice 3 piece gold filled case in good order with screw on/off front and rear covers.
Original Ball signed single sunk dial in excellent condition with a good set of blued steel hands under an acrylic crystal.
Overall a beautiful example of this very rare watch.
