Rare 18s Hampden "Special Railway" 23 jewel 2 Tone
Fairly rare Hampden model 3. 23 jewel 2 tone movement "Special Railway".
The movement carries 23 jewels with raised Gold settings (screw set) for the top plate. The watch plates are finished in 2 tones (Gilt on Nickel) the visible screws have polished gold coloured heads and the script is gold coloured. A visually striking movement of very high quality that exceeded railroad standards when it was manufactured in 1898. This watch has been fully serviced and is in excellent condition, runs really well and keeps good time. The watch is pendant wound and lever set.
The case, hinged front and rear covers, in beautiful condition with only the bow showing some slight brassing.The die engraved detailing is clear and still quite sharp, the milled case edge showing no wear. The hinges in perfect condition and the whole is bright and shiny with a vacant cartouche to the rear.
The railroad dial is bright, clear and with crisp numerals and lettering. Just the very faintest of hairlines at the 4 really only visible with magnification. The blued hands clean and straight.
The mineral glass crystal has just the very faintest of scratches from use.
A very nice, fairly rare Railroad watch from Hampden in excellent condition.

This is a lever set watch. To set time open front cover and withdraw lever on edge of dial at the 2. Rotate crown to set time, replace lever, close cover.
Crown now reverts to winding function.
