Nice original Hamilton 992 railroad. Clamshell swing out case.

A very nice, all original Railroad watch made by Hamilton Watch Co. in 1917.
The 16 size,  model 2,  992 grade is a very high quality watch made to full railroad specification. The nickel plate movement has 21 jewels with a fully capped Swiss Lever Escapement with double roller, Sapphire pallet stones, gold timing screws, and Reed patent micro-regulator. Beautifully finished with a gold (ally) centre wheel, gold jewel settings, gilt inlaid script, and a lovely Damascened pattern.
This watch is mechanically and cosmetically sound, running strong and keeping time within +10 secs. per day. The watch is crown wind and lever set (withdraw the small lever by the 1 and rotate the crown to set the time) both functions operate smoothly.
This movement is housed within a  Gold filled "Swing Out" clamshell case that is fully signed inside the rear cover. The movement is retained within a solid nickel ring that is hinged to the inside of the case. (Open the front cover and swing the movement up and out of the rear portion of the case). With the pendant vertical the hinge is below the 9 position i.e. on the left with a thumbnail indentation below the 3, on the right. The movement is always attached to the case so just swing it back in order to close everything back up.
The case has one exterior hinge to allow the front cover to be opened to access the time set lever and also to allow the movement to be swung out, there is a thumbpiece just to the right of the pendant and the front swings down toward the 6.
The case is in nice condition with no dents or dings and no wear through that I can see. Both hinges are good and everything works as intended.
The double sunk white enamel dial is in fair condition with just a couple of hairlines that I can see. A nice set of blued steel hands under a good acrylic crystal.
Overall a nice collectible antique railroad watch in good overall condition and working well.
