Lovely Sterling Silver Hamilton 992 railroad watch
A lovely, heavy Sterling Silver cased Hamilton 992 railroad watch made in 1913.
The high quality nickel plate model 992 movement has 21 jewels, a fully capped Swiss lever escapement with double roller, Sapphire pallet stones, gold timing screws and a sprung micro-regulator. To full railroad specification this movement also has a gold (alloy) centre wheel and gold jewel settings. Beautifully finished with a damaskeened pattern the movement has gold inlaid script. This one is running strong in all positions for the full length of the wind and is keeping time plus a few seconds per day.
The watch is stem wind and lever set.
This movement is housed in a heavy solid sterling silver "Swing Out" case whereby the movement itself is secured to an inner ring of the case which is then hinged to the main body below the pendant. Clicking out the stem as if going to time set on a more usual watch, unscrew the front cover and then swing out the movement from the main body (ensure the hands are turned away from the bottom when doing this). The case is in lovely overall condition and the swing out operates as it should. There is a gold embossed locomotive on the rear. A really nice example of this type of case.
Double sunk original white enamel dial is in fair condition as it does have a small chip by the 11, a couple of very fine hairlines, and some perimeter marks. However these flaws are not really noticeable with the watch in the hand. The time indicated by a good set of blued steel heavy spade style hands under a very good mineral crystal.
Overall a classy example of this watch in lovely condition, all working as it should.
