Lovely Hamilton 992B railroad watch.

Lovely Hamilton 992B railroad watch.

A fine Railroad Watch made by Hamilton Watch Co. in 1957.
The 992B is probably the most well regarded pocket watch ever made, and justifiably so. The Nickel plate movement has 21 jewels, a fully capped Swiss lever escapement with double roller, Sapphire pallet stones, Gold timing screws, and a fully sprung micro-regulator. The movement also has the ground breaking "Elinvar" white metal hairspring and solid mono-metal balance wheel. The "Elinvar" spring solved the timing problems caused by variations in ambient temperature, and is also anti-magnetic.
Renowned for their reliability and accuracy the 992B was in continuous production from 1941 until the factory closed in 1969. This particular watch has just had a full service and is running strong in all positions whilst keeping excellent time. It is crown wind and lever set, both functions work smoothly.
Original 3 piece "Bar over Crown" gold filled case is in beautiful all round condition. No dents, dings or major abrasion, and all of the gold intact. Screw on / off covers front and rear with both doing so easily and closing down square and tight. Embossed on the crown is "Hamilton Railroad".
The double sunk white enamel dial does have a couple of small hairlines as you will see from the photos, but these are not really visible with the watch in the hand.
Time indicated by a good set of black enamelled hands under a good acrylic crystal.
Overall a fine, highly collectible railroader in lovely useable condition.
