Lovely Hamilton 944 Railroad pocket watch.
A lovely 18 size railroad pocket watch made by Hamilton Watch Co. in 1907, a rare watch this as only 6590 of this grade were ever made.
The full plate nickel movement has 19 jewels with a Swiss lever escapement, double roller, Sapphire pallet stones, gold timing screws, a patent "Goldthwaite" micro-regulator, and a fully jeweled mainspring barrel. The movement is to full railroad specification and is beautifully finished with a lovely damascened pattern, gilt inlaid script, and gold jewel settings.
The watch is crown wind and lever set (withdraw the small lever by the 2 and rotate the crown to set the time) both functions are working smoothly, the watch is running well in all positions and it's keeping excellent good time.
High quality 25 year gold filled swing out case. The movement is housed within a solid ring within the case that is itself hinged to the main body of the case below the 12. This type of watch case is particularly good as the materials tend to be of a heavier gauge than most and there is only one opening cover which helps to prevent the ingress of dust and foreign matter into the movement. This particular case is in excellent condition with just age related minor blemishes, and with the gold intact all around. The pendant, crown and bow all in lovely condition. The front cover is a tight fit to screw on/off but the threads are good, just a bit tight.
Original double sunk white enamel dial is in excellent condition as are the blued steel hands and the acrylic crystal.
Overall a rare railroad watch in lovely condition and working as intended.
