Lovely 16s Waltham 23 jewel Vanguard Railroad. Serviced.

Fabulous railroad watch made by Waltham Watch Co. in 1918.
The 16 size nickel movement is a model 1908 23 jewel Vanguard grade, one of the best top grade watches made. It has 23 jewels, a fully capped Swiss lever escapement with double roller, Sapphire pallet stones, diamond end stones, gold timing screws, and a sprung micro-regulator. The movement is finished with a jewelled patent safety spring barrel, raised gold jewel settings, a lovely damaskened pattern, and gilt inlaid script.
This particular movement is mechanically and cosmetically sound as it has just been fully serviced and has a new mainspring fitted. It runs strong in all positions and keeps excellent time within a couple of seconds per 24Hr.
It is stem wind and lever set (withdraw the small lever by the 1 and rotate the crown to set the time). Both functions working smoothly.
The 10K gold filled case is by Keystone case Co. with screw on/off front/rear covers. It is in very good condition with no dents or dings and with the gold layer intact all around. Both covers remove / replace easily and both close down square and tight.
Original double sunk white enamel dial with red 5 minute outer markers. The dial is in lovely condition, I can find no flaws. Good blued steel spade style hands under a good acrylic crystal.
Overall a very collectible antique railroad watch in lovely condition throughout and working perfectly.
