Lovely 16s Waltham 17 jewel "Royal" open face pocket watch

The nickel bridge plate movement is a model 1908, grade "Royal" with 17 jewels, a Swiss lever escapement that has a "Church 1892" patent micro-regulator, and the Waltham patented "Safety Barrel" that is designed to prevent extra collateral damage in the event of a mainspring breakage, The model 1908 movement is a development of the earlier model 1899 and both have proven to be solid performers in terms of reliability and time keeping accuracy. This particular watch is in excellent condition cosmetically and mechanically as it runs strong for the full length of the wind and is keeping remarkably good time. The watch is stem wind and stem set (Just pull out the crown and rotate to set the time), both functions work smoothly.

The 10k gold filled case is a 20 year high quality item and is in beautiful condition with no dents, dings, abrasion, or apparent gold loss. The original engine turned finish to the rear is clear but age and use has worn it smooth. The case has hinged covers front and rear with a hinged internal dust cover. All of the hinges are good and all of the covers operate as they should, and all close square and tight. An excellent case.

Original single sunk white enamel dial is in as new condition, with a very good set of blued steel spade style hands under a very good mineral glass crystal.

Overall a beautiful and highly useable watch in lovely condition.
