Lovely 16s Elgin 21 jewel B W Raymond Railroad pocket watch.
A handsome late model railroad watch made by Elgin Watch Co. in 1943, all original.
The nickel bridge plate movement is a model 15, grade 478 that features 21 jewels, a fully capped Swiss lever escapement with double roller, Sapphire pallet stones, a Ball micro-regulator and the latest white metal heat resistant hairspring and associated solid balance wheel. This was all state of the art at the time the watch was made and hasn't really been improved much even today.
The watch is running strong in all positions and is keeping very good time, it is stem wind and lever set.
Original 3 piece gold filled case fully signed by Elgin is in nice condition showing a couple of very minor dings to the rear cover, the gold is intact throughout with no wear through evident. Screw on/off covers front and rear with the rear being somewhat tight to remove and replace.
Original double sunk white enamel dial is in lovely condition, I can find no flaws but please study the Hi-Res photos. Original black enameled heavy spade style hands also in lovely condition and all under a very good acrylic crystal.
Overall a lovely example of this high grade railroader working as it should.
