Lovely 16 size Waltham 23 jewel Vanguard Railroad Watch

Beautiful railroad watch made by Waltham Watch Co. in 1946.
The movement is a very high grade model 1908, with 23 jewels, a fully capped Swiss Lever escapement with double roller, Sapphire pallet stones, gold timing screws, and micro-regulator. This is a late model movement so it also has the very latest "Conel" white metal hairspring and associated solid mono-metal balance wheel. "Conel" is the Waltham version of the "Elinvar" hairspring used by Hamilton. These hairsprings are temperature change resistant and also anti-magnetic which gives much more reliable and constant timekeeping accuracy. The movement also features a fully jewelled version of the Patented Waltham safety barrel housing the mainspring.
This particular movement is in excellent condition, running strong in all positions and keeping spot on time. Cosmetically good and finished with a light damascened patterning, gold jewel settings and gold coloured inlaid script.
The watch is crown wind and lever set (withdraw the small lever by the 11 and rotate the crown to set the time) both functions work smoothly.
Housed in it's original gold filled 3 piece case which is signed Waltham within the rear cover. The case has screw on / off covers front and  rear with both doing so easily and both closing down square and tight. The case is in lovely condition with no dents, dings or abrasion. Lovely case!
The original fully signed white enamel dial is in super condition, I can find no flaws. Time indicated by a very good set of blued steel hands under a very good acrylic crystal.
Overall a handsome railroader in extremely good condition.
