Handsome 18s Waltham 21j Crescent St. Railroad Watch
A model 1892 Railroad watch made by Waltham Watch Co. in 1901.
The model 1892 was the final, and best full plate 18 size watch made by Waltham and was a vast improvement on what had gone before. This 21 jewel "Crescent Street" grade example features a fully capped Swiss Lever Escapement with double roller, Sapphire pallet stones, gold timing screws and a "Church 1892" micro-regulator. A high quality movement that exceeds railroad specification this is running really well and keeping excellent time.
The watch is crown wind and lever set, both functions working smoothly.
Heavy Nickel alloy swing out case wherein the movement is attached to a solid ring that in turn is hinged to the main body of the case below the pendant. The case is in excellent condition all round, screw on / off front cover which does so easily, and the hinge is good as the movemnt swings in and out of the case easily (remember to click the crown out before lifting the movement, and then press it back down after reseating the movement. It's also a good idea to turn the hands away from the 6 in case your thumb slips. ouch!) A good solid highly useable case.
The double sunk white enamel dial is in fair condition as it does have a few scattered hairlines, please see photo. In real time, with the watch in hand these are not overly apparent.
A good set of blued steel hands under a good acrylic crystal.
Overall a nice example of these very good watches, and in everyday useable condition.
