Hamilton 992B railroad. Stainless Steel case. Serviced!
Superb railroad watch made by Hamilton Watch Co. in 1950.
The Hamilton 992B is probably the finest railroad watch made by any of the American Watch Companies as it features all of the very latest horological developments of the age. It was so good that the watch was in continuous production from 1941 until the factory closed in 1969. It features 21 jewels, has a fully capped Swiss lever escapement with double roller, Sapphire pallets, gold timing screws, sprung micro-regulator, and the innovative "Elinvar" white metal alloy hairspring with associated solid mono metal balance wheel. This new hairspring solved the problems of irregular timekeeping caused by changes in ambient temperatures, it was also found to be anti-magnetic.
This watch has just been fully serviced so it is running strong and is keeping good time + a few seconds per 24Hrs. It is stem wind and lever set (remove the front cover and withdraw the small lever by the 1, rotating the crown moves the hands and sets the time). Both functions work smoothly.
The 3 piece case is made from stainless steel and is in super unworn condition. There are no dents or dings, and no major abrasion marks. Both of the covers remove and replace easily and both close down square and tight all round. Really nice case!
The double sunk white melamine dial is in superb unmarked condition, I can find no flaws. Equally the black enamelled hands are also in unmarked condition, and all under a very good acrylic crystal.
Overall a highly collectible railroad watch in beautiful condition and working as it should.
