Hamilton 992B. Just serviced.
Fine railroad watch made by Hamilton Watch Co. in 1948.
The 16 size nickel movement is a 21 jewel model 5, 992B grade and features a fully capped Swiss Lever escapement with double roller, Sapphire pallets, gold timing screws, and a sprung micro-regulator. The escapement also features the "Elinvar" white metal alloy hairspring with associated solid mono-metal balance wheel. These were the latest advances in watch making technology and are a vast improvement over what had gone before.
This particular movement is in excellent condition having just been fully serviced, and benefitting from a new mainspring. It runs strong in all positions and is keeping good time to better than + 10 secs per day. The watch is stem wind and lever set (withdraw the small lever by the 1 and rotate the crown to set the time), both functions work smoothly.
The 3 piece 10K gold filled case is in nice condition. It has a noticeable ding to the rear cover when the light catches it. All of the gold is intact and both covers remove and replace easily. Generally a very nice case.
The white Melamine dial does have the usual fine hairlines but these are not really noticeable with the watch in the hand. I don't know what it is with these melamine dials but they do seem particularly susceptible to these fine hairlines, and this one is no different but is in fact better than a lot. In fact the lines are just about invisible to the naked eye till the light catches them.
A very good set of blued steel heavy spade style hands and I have fitted a brand new acrylic crystal.
Overall a very nice, highly collectible railroad watch that can be used daily.
