Hamilton 992 railroad watch. GF swing out case.
A very nice railroader from Hamilton Watch Co. made in1914.
The 992 was the first 16 size watch made by Hamilton that fully complied with Railroad specs. A nickel plate movement with 21 jewels, a fully capped swiss lever escapement with double roller, Sapphire pallet stones, gold timing screws and a sprung micro-regulator. The movement also has a gold (alloy) centre wheel and gold jewel settings. Beautifully finished with a damaskened pattern and gilt inlaid script. This is a super high quality movement that is running well and keeping very good time. The watch is stem wind and lever set.
Nice gold filled swing out case with a screw on/off front cover. The movement is housed in a nickel ring that is hinged to the top of the case under the stem. To get at the movement:- click out the stem (as if to time set with a conventional watch) remove the front cover and swing the movement up from the bottom (there is a small indent by the six to accomodate a thumb or finger nail).
The case is in very nice condition, no dents or dings, the original engine turned finish has just about worn away and there is total gold loss to the bottom of the main band. Overall however it's a nice case.
Original double sunk white enamel dial in super condition with a good set of blued steel hands under a good mineral crystal.
Overall a lovely collectible watch in very nice useable condition.
