Hamilton 4992B military pocket watch. Just serviced.

In response to orders and specifications from the military for a super accurate pocket watch, Hamilton Watch Co. devised the 4992B.
Based upon the superb 21 jewel 992B railroad watch the 22 jewel military version incorporated a "Sweep Centre Seconds Hand"  a 24Hr dial, and a "Hacking" feature whereby pulling the crown to time set position actually stops the watch, pressing the crown down to run position immediately restarts the watch. This feature being crucial for accurate time setting and easy synchronizing with other time pieces. The additional jewel over the 21j 992B is used to support the centre seconds pinion.
The movement has 22 jewels and features a fully capped Swiss Lever Escapement, Sapphire pallet stones, Gold timing screws, the innovative "Elinvar" white metal hairspring and associated solid mono-metal balance wheel. This was all state of the art technology for the period and produced a super accurate timepiece.
This watch has just had a full service so it is running reliably in all positions and is keeping good time. The watch is crown wind and crown set (Pull out the crown and rotate to set the time).
Housed in it's original 3 piece chrome plated base metal case which is in lovely condition with no dents or dings that I can see, and all of the engravings on the rear cover still crisp and sharp and with little chrome plating loss. The covers screw on/off easily and both close down square and tight.
The black painted 24 hour military dial is in lovely condition with all of the printing crisp and sharp. This is a true 24 hour watch where the hour hand rotates once in 24 hours so the 12 is located on the dial where you would expect to find the 6 on a traditional 12 hour clock face. Reading the time is interesting!
The time is indicated by white hour and minute hands but this watch has red seconds hand. All hands are in good condition and the whole sits below a good acrylic crystal.
Overall a highly collectible military watch in superb condition, running as it should.
