Good 16 size 15 jewel Waltham sterling silver hunter, Braille dial!
A delightful 16s silver hunter with a Braille dial made by Waltham Watch Co. in 1917.
The movement is a conventional nickel model 1908 grade 620 with 15 jewels, and Swiss lever escapement. It runs well and is keeping good time to within + 2mins per day. The watch is stem wind and stem set.
Really nice Sterling Silver case that is fully hallmarked. The case is in very good condition with the hinges good and all covers working as they should. There is an inscription to "Dear old Tom" inside the front cover. As the watch is for the use of a blind person there is no glass under the front cover.
It's the dial and hands that are of particular interest. The dial is characterised by the large raised bumps around the perifery to denote the hours, and the hands are of a particularly sturdy type so that by a light touch a blind person can read the time. Knowing that the stem is by the three it would be easy for them to, with practice, orientate the watch and tell the time.
The dial is in good order apart from the obvious crack that is easily seen at the top, as also are the hands.
Overall a very interesting watch for the collector and also still very useable.
