Fine Hamilton 992B railroad watch

Fine Hamilton 992B railroad watch

Beautiful Hamilton 992B railroad watch made in 1943.
The 992B is arguably the very best mass produced pocket watch ever made. It was in continuous unaltered production from 1941 until the factory closed in 1969 and hundreds of thousands of them were made in that time. Renowned for it's rugged reliability and timekeeping accuracy it was used as the basis for the military 4992B navigation master watch.
The movement has 21 jewels, a fully capped Swiss lever escapement with double roller, Sapphire pallets, gold timing screws and a sprung micro-regulator. The escapement features the innovative "Elinvar" white metal alloy hairspring with associated solid mono-metal balance wheel.
This particular watch has just had a complete service with a new mainspring added. It is running strong in all positions and keeps time to within a couple of seconds per 24 hours. The watch is stem wind and lever set(withdraw the small lever by the 1 and rotate the crown to set the time), both functions work smoothly.

The 10K gold filled case is made by Wadsworth and is in lovely condition. No dents, dings or apparent gold loss, bar over crown with pendant, crown and bow all in good order. Both covers remove and replace easily, and both close down square and tight.
Excellent white enamelled dial with just a very small hairline mark between the 4 & 5. Black enamelled railroad hands under a good acrylic crystal.

Overall a very collectible and useable watch in first class order.
