Fabulous Hamilton 992E railroad watch
This is a beautiful example of a Hamilton 21 jewel 992E railroader that was made in 1939.
The nickel plate movement is a development of the earlier 992, with 21 jewels it has a fully capped Swiss lever escapement with double roller, Sapphire pallets, gold timing screws and a micro-regulator. The development in this watch is the inclusion of the "Elinvar" hairspring along with a solid mono-metal balance wheel. The "Elinvar" spring is a major advance over earlier carbon steel springs in that it is resistant to temperature change and is also anti-magnetic.
This watch is in superb mechanical condition as it runs strong for the full length of the wind and is keeping excellent time. It is stem wind and lever set.
The original Hamilton factory case is in beautiful condition with no dents, dings or abrasion, and the gold is bright and lustrous throughout. 3 piece case with screw on / off front and rear covers, both do so easily and both close square and tight.
Original double sunk white enamel dial is in "as new" condition, no flaws. Lovely set of blued steel hands under a good acrylic crystal.
Overall one of the best examples of this watch.
