Fabulous Hamilton 992B Railroad pocket watch
fantastic railroad grade pocket watch made by Hamilton Watch Co. in 1949.
The nickel plate 992B is the quintessential railroad watch and is recognised as one of the finest mechanical watches ever made. In production, unchanged from 1941 until the factory closed in 1969 the 992B incorporates all of the very latest watch making developments. Renowned for it's reliability and accuracy the 992B was used as the basis for the military grade 4992B Navigation Master Watch.
The movement features 21 jewels, a fully capped Swiss lever escapement with double roller, Sapphire pallet stones, gold timing screws, a micro-regulator, and the "elinvar" white metal hairspring with associated mono-metal solid balance wheel.
This particular watch has just been fully serviced and a new white metal mainspring has been fitted. It is mechanically sound as it runs with strong amplitude in all positions and is keeping time within =10 seconds per day. The watch is crown wind and lever set, both functions working smoothly.
Housed in it's original Hamilton signed 10K gold filled case which has screw on / off covers front and rear. The case is in lovely condition with no dents, dings or serious abrasion and the gold is bright and lustrous throughout. There is a presentation engraving within the rear cover, please see photo.
White melamine dial in good order as are the black enamelled hands and the acrylic crystal.
