Fabulous Hamilton 992B Railroad. Just Serviced!
A beautiful railroad watch made by Hamilton Watch Co. in 1950, fully serviced and running strong.
The Hamilton 992B is probably the most recognised railroad watch and it is certainly one of the finest. This one was made in 1950 and features 21jewels, a fully capped Swiss lever escapement with double roller, Sapphire pallet stones, gold timing screws, "Elinvar" white metal hairspring and associated mono metal solid balance wheel. The 992B is renowned for it's accuracy and extended run time in excess of 40 hours on a single wind. This particular watch is running strong in all positions and keeping time to within a handful of seconds per day. It has just been fully serviced and has a brand new mainspring.
This watch is stem wind and lever set (withdraw the small lever by the 1 and rotate the crown to set the time.) Both functions are smooth and working well.
The case is a model A and probably original to the watch, it is period correct as are the hands which are also probably original to the watch. Also period correct is the melamine dial.
The case is in lovely condition throughout showing just the expected age related light scratches, the gold appears good all over with no wear through to brass evident. The pendant, crown and bow also in good order. The case has screw on/off covers with both doing so easily and both closing down square and tight all around.
The white melamine dial is in good condition with just one hairline that I can find that runs through the 8. All of the printing is crisp.
The blued steel hands are in great condition and all live under a very good mineral glass crystal.
Overall a super example of this highly collectible watch that is running as intended. Ideal as a daily user!
