Fabulous Hamilton 992B just serviced runs great.

Another fabulous railroad grade watch made by Hamilton Watch Co. in 1948. This one just serviced and with a new mainspring so running strong and keeping time to better than +10 secs per day.
 
The 16 size nickel plate 992B movement is the development from the earlier excellent 992. The 992B proved to be so good that it was in continuous production from 1941 through to 1969, and indeed was the last pocket watch produced by Hamilton as the factory closed in 1969.
The movement has 21 jewels, a fully capped Swiss lever escapement with double roller, Sapphire pallet stones, gold timing screws and a sprung micro-regulator. The escapement featured the innovative "Elinvar" white metal hairspring and associated solid mono-metal balance wheel.
This particular movement has just been fully serviced and a new mainspring installed, it runs strong in all positions keeping excellent time. The watch is stem wind and lever set (withdraw the small lever by the 1 and rotate the crown to set the time.
 
The 10K gold filled case is in very good condition, it has one pin head sized ding to the rear cover but is otherwise unmarked and all of the original gold appears intact with just some very minor scratches to betray it's age. The screw on/off covers both do so easily and both screw down square and tight.
 
Original Melamine dial is in average condition for it's type. Unfortunately there are some evident hairline cracks in the surface which are typical for this type of dial, please see the photos. In my opinion they are not too obvious to the naked eye and don't detract from the overall appearance of the watch when in the hand, but as I say that's just my opinion. Otherwise the dial is clean and all of the printing is still bold and clear.
The time displayed by a very good set of blued steel heavy spade style hands under a very good acrylic crystal.
 
Overall a beautiful railroader in super condition ready to go back to work.
