Elgin 21 jewel railroad pocket watch in Sterling Silver case.
Heavy 18s railroad watch made by Elgin Watch Co. in 1908. In a very good sterling silver case.
A fairly scarce watch as only 27500 were ever made. This is a very high quality movement to full railroad spec. it has 21 jewels, a Swiss lever escapement with double roller, Sapphire pallet stones, gold timing screws and a travelling nut micro-regulator. Beautifully finished movement with a lovely damaskened pattern, gilt inlaid script, and raised gold jewel settings.
The watch is running strong in all positions and is keeping excellent time. It is crown wind and lever set (withdraw the small lever by the 2 and rotate the crown to set the time) both functions working smoothly.
The swing out case is solid Sterling Silver and it's in lovely condition all round. The front cover screws on/off easily and closes down tight and square, and the inner hinge is in fine condition. The pendant, crown, and bow also in fine fettle.
The unusual double sunk white enamel dial is to Canadian 24Hr. specification and is also of the Montgomery style with each minute annotated on the outer chapter with red 5 minute markers. The dial is in lovely condition with no visible flaws that I can detect, nice!
A very good set of blued steel heavy spade style hands indicate the time under a good acrylic crystal.
Overall a fairly rare railroader in super condition.
