Elgin 19j B W Raymond. Display case.
Nice 16 size railroad watch made by Elgin Watch Co. in 1918.
The nickel plate movement is a grade 455 "B W Raymond" with 19jewels and features a Swiss lever escapement with double roller, Sapphire pallets, gold timing screws and a travelling nut micro-regulator. The movement is finished with gold jewel settings, a lovely damascened pattern to the plates and gold enamelled inlaid script.
The watch has recently been fully serviced and has a new mainspring. It is stem wind and lever set (withdraw the small lever adjacent to the 1 and rotate the crown to set the time). The watch is running well with very good strong amplitude and is keeping excellent time, the winding and setting functions work smoothly.
The watch has a nickel alloy display case with acrylic crystals front and rear. The covers snap on / off and both do so easily. The case is in very good order with no noticeable dents, dings or abrasion. The pendant, crown, and bow also in good order.
White enamel dial in lovely condition with just a tiny chip at the 12 that cannot be seen when the front cover is on. Time displayed by a good set of heavy spade style hands although the minute hand does show some corrosion stains. Both crystals in good order.
Overall a good railroader in super condition and working as it should.
