Beautiful 18s Waltham "Appleton Tracy" rare specialist case.

A beautiful 18 size open face pocket watch made by Waltham Watch Co. in 1889, and housed in a very rare clam shell 2 piece anti-magnetic case.

The 18 size model 1883 movement is a 15 jewel "Appleton Tracy" grade. so a high quality movement for the day. With the 15 jewels the movement has an "English Lever" (right angle) escapement a beautiful damaskeened pattern finish to the plates and raised gold jewel settings.

The watch is stem wind and stem set, both functions work well. It is mechanically sound as the watch runs strong in all positions and is keeping very good time to better than 1 minute per day This watch features a very rare clam shell 2 piece case that is claimed "Anti-Magnetic" I believe the material is an alloy containing Nickel as there are no claims to silver marked within the case. The movement sits within a solid ring that also has the pendant crown and bow attached, this ring then sits within the clamshell outer body and is retained when the case is closed. Open the outer case which is hinged at the bottom and the inner ring with movement attached simply lifts out. The whole case is in lovely condition with no dents or dings and no major abrasion marks. The bottom hinge is good and the clam shell opens and closes easily. A fairly unique case in lovely condition.

The beautiful white enamel dial is also in lovely condition featuring a lovely painted picture of 2 horses and traps racing. I can find no flaws with this dial but please study the photos to form your own opinion. 

Time is indicated by a lovely set of blued steel spade style hands under an unmarked mineral glass crystal.

Overall a beautiful antique watch in outstanding condition with a lovely dial in an unusual case, exceptional!
