Ball / Hamilton 999N 23 jewel Railroad
Highly sought after Ball / Hamilton 999N Railroad pocket watch. Like all Ball Watch Co. pocket watches, the movement in this watch was actually manufactured by a different watch maker, in this case Hamilton. Waltham, Elgin, Hampden were amongst other manufacturers that provided the movements for Ball watch Co.
The 16 size movemnt here is about as sophisticated as it got in 1923 when this was made. It features 23 jewels, gold jewel settings, a fully capped escapement, jewelled motor barrel, gold timing screws on the temperature compensated balance and a sprung micro-regulator. This movement is in super condition having just been serviced and fitted with a new main spring. It runs strong and keeps excellent time to within a few seconds per day. The watch is pendant wound and lever set.
The correct and original Ball watch Co. yellow gold filled case is in super condition, and the train engraved on the rear cover is still crisp and sharp. No dents, dings or heavy scratches, and no wear through to brass evident anywhere. A nice case where both covers screw on / off easily, and screw down square all around.
The single sunk white enamel dial in as new condition, and accompanied by good black steel railroad style hands all residing under an unmarked mineral glass crystal.
Overall, a superb example of this fairly rare and highly collectable watch.
