Another stunning 22j Elin military pocket watch
Fairly rare military watch (14000 total produced), made by Elgin Watch Co in 1943.
These watches were developed from the existing B W Raymond 21j railroad watch specifically to satisfy orders from the military. Due to the urgency of these orders the initial batch are still marked as 21j, later production changed this to 22j. Taking the existing 21j movement these were then modified to include a centre sweep seconds hand and a hacking feature. The extra jewel supports the end of the seconds hand arbor. The hacking feature stops the movement when the crown is pulled to time set position, and restarts the watch when the crown is depressed to run/wind position. This allows very accurate time setting and easy synchronising with other timepieces. This particular watch was produced for the British military and has the Broad arrow emblem clearly displayed.
The very high quality movement features a fully capped Swiss lever escapement with double roller, Sapphire pallet stones, gold timing screws, and a sprung micro-regulator. The watch also has the very latest white metal hairspring and solid mono-metal balance wheel.
This one has the natural Nickel finished plates a lovely damaskened pattern and black enamelled inlaid script. The watch is crown wind and crown set.
The watch is running beautifully, everything works, and it keeps excellent time.
The white enamel dial, black enamelled hands, and mineral glass crystal are all in perfect condition.
The chrome plated 3 piece case has screw on / off covers and is in "As New" condition.
Overall a fabulous watch in perfect order, what more can I say.
