9 jewel Waltham military pocket watch.
A very nice 2nd World War era pocket watch produced for the military by Waltham Watch Co. in 1944
This is the very latest version of the venerable model 1908 movement that incorporates the most recently developed technologies of that time. This is namely the temperature and magnetism resistant white metal alloy hairspring and associated solid mono metal balance wheel. Earlier carbon steel hairsprings suffered molecular change when temperatures rose or fell and this affected their elasticity and thus their timekeeping qualities. These new hairsprings overcame that problem so the timekeeping regularity of the movement was easier to adjust and much more reliable.
The model 1908 movement is one of the most successful movements made by any of the watch companies as it has proved to be extremely rugged, reliable and accurate, witness the many thousands still giving good reliable service today. This one is mechanically sound, is running strong in all positions for the full length of the wind and is keeping really good time over 24Hrs.
The watch is crown wind and set.The 3 piece base metal, chrome plated case is in lovely condition with no dents, dings, abrasion or loss of plating. The covers screw on and off easily and close down square and tight. The case has the British military Broad Arrow engraved on the rear cover so this was probably used by the British or Canadian forces. Excellent case of it's type.
Black painted dial is in lovely condition with all of the painted markings clear and sharp.
the military spec hands are in fair condition although some of the painted infill has come away. All this under a very good acrylic crystal.
Overall one of the better examples of this military spec watches currently available. Runs great.
