21 jewel Hamilton 992B railroad watch

21 jewel Hamilton 992B railroad watch

Very good railroad watch made by Hamilton Watch Co. in 1941.

The 992B movement was state of the art when it was introduced as it featured the ground breaking "Elinvar" temperature and magnetism resistant hairspring. Changes in ambient temperature affected the timekeeping of earlier carbon steel hairsprings so compensated balance wheels had to be produced to counter these problems. The "Elinvar" spring solved these problems so a more reliable watch could be produced.
The movement has 21 jewels, a fully capped Swiss lever escapement with double roller, Sapphire pallet stones, gold timing screws,  the "Elinvar" hairspring with solid mono-metal balance wheel, and a sprung micro-regulator. This particular movement has just been fully serviced, a new mainspring fitted and is now running strong in all positions and keeping really good time +5 secs per day.

The watch is stem wind and lever set (withdraw the small lever by the 1 and rotate the crown to set the time) both functions work smoothly.

The gold filled 3 piece case has screw on / off front and rear covers. The case is in lovely condition with no dents, dings or heavy abrasion, both covers remove and replace easily and both close down square and tight.

Very good double sunk white enamel dial with no flaws that I can detect. The time indicated by a lovely set of black enamelled heavy spade style hands under an as new glass crystal.

Overall a beautiful railroader in super fine condition.
