21 jewel Elgin "Father Time" railroad watch. Excellent timekeeper.

21 jewel Elgin "Father Time" railroad watch. Excellent timekeeper.

A beautiful railroad watch made by Elgin Watch Co. in 1912 and just one of a total production of 19,000 ever made so quite a rare watch.

The beautifully damaskened movement has 21 jewels and features a fully capped Swiss lever escapement with double roller, Sapphire palletstones and gold timing screws with a "travelling nut" micro-regulator. Finished with screw set gold jewel settings and a gilt inlaid script this is a very high quality movement.
The watch runs strong in all positions and is keeping excellent time. It is stem wind and lever set (withdraw the small lever by the 1 and rotate the crown to set the time). Both functions working smoothely.

The movement is housed in a 25yr. gold filled case with screw on / off covers. The case is in excellent condition with no obvious dents, dings or abrasion and no apparent wear through. Both covers remove and replace easily. There is highly stylised embossed design with a blank cartouche on the rear cover which does show age related smoothing. Overall a very nice case.

Double sunk Montgomery style dial in very good order and the time is indicated by a very good set of blued steel spade style hands under a very good acrylic crystal.

Overall a fairly rare railroader in super condition.
