18s Waltham "Vanguard." 21 jewel. Stem set

An 18 size open face watch made by Waltham in 1900.
Very high quality full plate, model 1892 18 size with 21 jewels. The Vanguard was the top grade 18 size movement made by Waltham and featured a fully capped Swiss lever escapement with double roller, Sapphire pallets, diamond end stones, gold timing screws and a micro-regulator. It also has a gold (alloy) centre wheel and gold jewel settings. This watch is running sweet and keeping very good time.
The watch is stem wind and stem set so it is not railroad approved.
The 20 year gold filled case is in fairly worn condition, whilst there are no dents, dings or abrasion, the gold has had a fairly torrid time as it is very worn, particularly on the rear cover. The case does, however, polish up nicely so the gold loss is not immediately apparent. Screw on / off front and rear covers and both covers operate as intended.
 A very good double sunk white enamel dial is complimented by a very good set of blued steel hands under an as new acrylic crystal.
Overall a nice watch in fine working order.
