18s Hampden 23 jewell "New Railway"

18s Hampden 23 jewell "New Railway"

Huge silveroid cased Hampden railroad watch.

The movement is the very high quality 23 jewell "New Railway" full plate with jewells in raised gold settings (Screw set), gold timing screws on the balance, gold covered movement screws and gold coloured script which all together give a classy finish to the movement. At the time of manufacture in 1909 this would have been fully adjusted and run to an accuracy of a couple of seconds per day. The watch has been serviced and is in first class order, running strong and keeping good time. It is pendat wound and lever set.

The heavy silveroid (mainly nickel) case is in excellent condition with a single screw off cover (Front) and the movement housed in a solid ring that swings out from a hinge at the 12. There is a chip on the crown where a small part of the silver covering has broken away, visible in picture 3, the pendant and bow in good condition.

The thick mineral glass crystal showing a few surface scratches. The railroad spade hands straight and nicely blued.

The double sunk dial is in lovely condition with nice crisp Arabic numerals with red 5 minute marker outer chapter.

Overall a really nice example of a high quality, heavy 18s railroad watch.
