18 size Waltham 23j Vanguard model 1892

Heavy 18size Railroad grade watch made by Waltham Watch Co. in 1904.
This is a model 1892 full plate movement, 23 jewel Vanguard and possibly the very best 18 size watch that Waltham made. It has 23 jewels, a fully capped Swiss lever escapement with double roller, Sapphire pallets, Diamond cap stones, gold timing screws, and a patent "Church" micro-regulator. The watch has a fully jewelled patent "Safety Barrel", raised gold jewel settings, and is finished with a lovely damaskened pattern and gilt inlaid script. This was state of the watchmakers art when it was made.
This particular watch has just been fully serviced and is running strong in all positions whilst keeping excellent good time. The watch is stem wind and lever set (withdraw the small lever by the 2 and rotate the crown to set the time.
The movement is housed in a heavy "silverode" (an alloy of Nickel and Silver) swing out style case with screw on/off front bezel. The movement is retained within a solid ring that is itself hinged to the main case body below the stem. This then allows the movement to be swung out from the main body whilst still remaining attached. In this case it all operates as it should.
The case is in excellent condition with no dents, dings or abrasion, and the front bezel removes/replace easily and closes down square and tight. The pendant, crown and bow are all in good order.
The white enamel double sunk dial is in lovely condition. The only flaw that I can find is a very small chip by the lever which is hidden when the bezel is on. A good set of blued steel spade style hands under a good thick mineral crystal.
Overall a really good early railroader in excellent condition.
