16s Waltham 23j Vanguard wind indicator railroad watch. Serviced
A fine example of this sophisticated railroader from Waltham Watch Co. made in 1926.
This is a top grade model 1908 movement, Vanguard grade with 23 jewels and a fully working wind indicator (power reserve). The watch has 23 jewels, a fully capped Swiss lever escapement with Sapphire pallet stones, double roller, gold timing screws and an Ohlson micro-regulator. The spec. also includes a gold centre wheel, and a fully jewelled "Safety Barrel". The movement is finished with a lovely damaskened pattern, gilt inlaid script and screw set gold jewel settings.
The watch has just been fully serviced and has a new mainspring. It is running beautifully and keeps spot on time, whilst the power reserve indicator is working as it should. For best timekeeping performance the watch should not be wound beyond the UP indication and should be rewound once it reaches the DOWN marker. There are just over 24 hours between the markers.
The watch is stem wind and lever set.
The original 14K gold filled case is fully signed by Waltham inside the rear cover. The case is in fabulous condition with very little signs of wear, and is what I believe is called "Green" gold as it is very bright. Screw on/off covers with both removing and replacing easily. Beautiful case!
The original dial is in fair condition as there is a small repair to the centre part just above the 7 and also a faint hairline by the 1. Otherwise all is good and all of the printing is crisp and sharp.
A very good set of blued steel railroad style hands and a good replacement acrylic crystal.
Overall a fine example of this top class railroader that could be used daily.
