16s Waltham 23j Vanguard Railroad watch.

Lovely railroad watch made by Waltham Watch Co. in 1937.
 
Sophisticated model 1908 Vanguard grade movement with 23 jewels features a fully capped Swiss lever escapement with double roller, Sapphire pallets, diamond end stones, gold timing screws and a sprung micro-regulator. The watch also has a gold centre wheel and a fully jewelled spring barrel along with gold jewel settings.
This watch runs strong in all positions and keeps spot on time. It is stem wind and lever set with both functions working smoothly.
 
"Cuprel" 3 piece case. I believe "Cuprel" is a trade name for a nickel alloy, whatever it is a very durable material as it is showing hardly any signs of wear. Both covers screw on and off easily and both close square and tight.
Nice fully signed white enamel dial with no chips or cracks and just one very faint hairline from the centre which is very hard to see with the naked eye.
Good set of blued steel heavy spade hands under a good glass crystal.
 
Overall a super accurate railroader in a durable case, highly collectible and an ideal daily user.
