16s Waltham 21 jewel "645" railroad grade pocket watch. Swing out case.

This is a model 1908 nickel bridge plate movement which is the development of the earlier model 1899. These movements have proven themselves to be robust, reliable and remarkably accurate over the years, witness the numbers still giving good reliable service even today.
This movement is a full railroad specification example with 21 jewels, a capped Swiss lever escapement with double roller, Sapphire pallet stones, gold timing screws and a Micrometer regulator. Nicely finished with a damaskeened pattern polished onto the surface of the plates, gold jewel settings, and black enameled script. The watch is running strong and is keeping very good time. It is stem wind and lever set with both functions working well.
The case is a nickel alloy swing out version whereby the movement is retained in a solid ring which itself is attached by a hinge below the 12 to the main case body. This arrangement provides very good protection for the movement against hard knocks to the case, in addition as there is only one removable cover there is less opportunity for dirt, dust and foreign matter to get into the mechanism. The case is in very good condition and has just one very small ding to the main band (I have tried to show this in the side on photo). The hinge is in good order and the movement swings out, and back in as intended. The crown and bow are brass so may well be replacement parts, I have no way of knowing but they work as intended also.
Original single sunk dial can be described as inn fair condition as whilst there are no noticeable chips or cracks there is a faint hairline running from the centre to just before the twelve mark (again please see the photos).
Time is indicated by a good set of fine blued steel spade style hands, the sub seconds hand has a minor bend which has proven difficult to completely eradicate, however it sweeps around the dial with no problem.
The mineral glass crystal is in good order.
Overall a nice example of a period correct railroad watch in fine fettle and working well.
