16s Waltham 19 jewel "Riverside"

16s Waltham 19 jewel "Riverside"

This is a fairly scarce 16s Waltham model 1908 19 jewel Riverside, of which only 26000 were ever made. This one was manufactured in 1913 and is Railroad grade although not Railroad approved as it is crown wind and set.

The movement is of very high quality as it features screw set gold jewel settings, a gold alloy centre wheel, gold timing screws, a fully jewelled barrel, a "Church" micro-regulator and full adjustment for regular timekeeping in 5 positions. It also has the usual Waltham quality finish with lovely damaskened engravings to the plates and highly stylised black enamel script. The movement has a brand new mainspring which was fitted during its recent service and is running strong, and keeping excellent time.

The 25 year gold filled case is by Keystone and has hinged front / rear covers with a hinged internal dust cover. The case is in fine condition but does show obvious age related wear in that the original engine tuned finish to the rear cover is worn although not through to brass. There are no dents, dings or heavy scratches and no evident wear through. In fact the gold is bright and lustrous all over. The hinges are all good with all 3 covers opening and closing as they should, and closing down square and tight all around.  Nice case.

The private label single sunk white enamel dial is in fine fettle with no chips, cracks or hairlines, and with all of the printing clear and sharp. A good set of blued steel spade style hands and a good acrylic crystal.

Overall, a very nice example of this sought after watch that is in lovely useable condition.
