16s Rockford grade 545 21j Railroad. Just Serviced.
A fairly rare railroad watch made by Rockford Watch Co. in 1900, one of a total production of 5500.
Nickel 3 finger type bridge plate grade 545 to full railroad spec with a fully capped Swiss lever escapement, double roller, gold timing screws and a sprung micro-regulator. The watch has a gold (alloy) centre wheel, screw set jewel settings and is finished with a beautiful damaskened pattern and gilt inlaid script. Mechanically the watch is in excellent condition as it has just been fully serviced and has a new mainspring fitted. It runs strong in all positions giving excellent timekeeping.
The watch is stem wind and lever set.
The nickel alloy case is in fine overall condition with no dents, dings or abrasion. Screw on/off front and rear covers, both do so readily but the front gets tight as it nears full closure.
Very good double sunk white enamel dial with no flaws that I can see.
Similarly good set of heavy railroad style hands under a good acrylic crystal.
Overall a rare collectible railroader that could be used daily.
