16s Hamilton 992 railroad pocket watch, serviced.

16s Hamilton 992 railroad pocket watch, serviced.

High quality railroad watch made by Hamilton Watch Co. in 1910.

This model 1, 992 grade watch has 21 jewels, a fully capped Swiss lever escapement with double roller, sapphire pallet stones, gold timing screws and a "Reed" micro-regulator. The movement is finished with a polished in damaskeend pattern, gold jewel settings and gilt coloured inlaid script. the watch was originally adjusted in 5 positions for timekeeping regularity. These are all  the hallmarks of a top quality movement.

This one has just been stripped, cleaned and reassembled with a brand new white metal mainspring, it is running well and is keeping good time within a minute per day. The watch is stem wind and lever set (withdraw the small lever by the 1 and rotate the crown to set the time)< both functions are working smoothly.

The case is a base metal, I think brass, 3 piece affair that is in nice condition. Screw on/off covers front and rear and both do so easily whilst closing down square and tight. There are no dents, dings or abrasion and the case polishes up nicely.

The dial I would suggest is in fair condition, it is double sunk white enamel but does have some faint hairlines around the 10 and between the 7&8, all of the printing is crisp and sharp and it is the desirable Montgomery style.

A good set of blued steel hands reside under a new acrylic crystal.

Overall a collectible railroader in nice working condition.
