16s Elgin 21 jewel "Father Time" railroad pocket watch
A beautiful example of this railroad grade watch made by Elgin Watch Co. in 1921.
This is a model 15, grade 454 bridge plate movement that has been beautifully finished with a floral damaskeened pattern that has been polished into the plates. With 21 jewels the movement has a fully capped Swiss lever escapement with double roller, Sapphire pallet stones, gold timing screws and a "Travelling Nut" micro-regulator. With screw set gold jewel settings this is a top quality movement.
It runs strong for the full length of the wind and keeps really good time within a few seconds per day. The watch is crown wind and lever set (withdraw the small lever by the 1 and rotate the crown to set the time)> Both actions are working smoothly.
The 20 year gold filled 3 piece case is in super fine condition with no dents, dings, abrasion or apparent wear through. The elaborate embossed and engraved design to the rear cover is crisp and sharp, and the gold appears intact throughout. The pendant, crown and bow are all in lovely condition whilst both covers remove and replace easily.
The double sunk white enamel dial appears in as new condition, please see the hi-res photos.
Nice set of blued steel heavy spade hands and a very good mineral glass crystal.
Overall a fine railroader in exceptionally good condition and working perfectly.
