16s Ball Hamilton 21 jewel railroad watch

16s Ball Hamilton 21 jewel railroad watch

A railroad grade pocket watch made for the Ball Watch Co. by Hamilton in 1941.

Having been instrumental in devising and setting the Standards required for watches to be approved for railroad use Mr. Webb C. Ball then founded the company named after himself in order to sell approved watches to the various railroad companies. Not himself being a watchmaker he had movements made to his specifications by established watch making companies . Makers providing movements included Hamilton (As this particular watch), Waltham, Illinois, Elgin, amongst others. The watches were then sold under the Ball branding.

This movement is a grade 999P made in 1941 with 21jewels, a fully capped Swiss lever escapement with double roller, Sapphire pallet stones, gold timing screws and a micro-regulator. The movement was finished with a circular damaskened pattern and screw set gold jewel settings. The watch is running strong in all positions and is keeping really good time. It is stem wind and lever set (withdraw the small lever by the 1 and rotate the crown to set the time) both functions work smoothly.

Housed in a 3 piece nickel display case with screw on / off front and rear covers, and with good acrylic crystals front and rear. Both covers remove and replace easily, and both close down square and tight. The pendant, crown and bow all in very good order. Good case.

Single sunk fully signed white enamel dial is in as new condition with a very good set of black enamelled heavy spade style hands.

Overall a very collectible railroad watch in fabulous condition and running as it should.
